Alto-Shaam, Raqtan open
Culinary Center in Saudi Arabia

Raqtan Trading Group announced the launch of its state-of-the-art culinary center in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia in March. The culinary center, created in partnership with Alto-Shaam, showcases a variety of Alto-Shaam equipment. The opening was staffed by Alto-Shaam’s Corporate Executive Chef, Nic Tsikis.
Raqtan – Alto-Shaam Gulf Culinary Center
Named the Raqtan – Alto-Shaam Gulf Culinary Center, the facility is the latest innovation of Raqtan’s marketing team and a major step for Raqtan to broaden and extend the services it offers to their customers. Raqtan is the Alto-Shaam dealer in the Gulf market.

“We must no longer wait for clients to appreciate our offering. We must demonstrate first-hand the value we can propose,” said Abdulaziz Raqtan, President, Raqtan Trading Group. “Our number one concern, the customer, will be introduced to the products and be hands-on trained."

The state-of-the-art culinary center is designed to replicate foodservice applications found in today’s kitchen environment. Attendees will experience Alto-Shaam’s Rack Management System, consisting of Combitherm combi ovens, QuickChiller blast chillers, and Halo Heat holding cabinets. The system streamlines kitchen operations, allowing food to be made ahead of time and rethermed when it is needed. The patented Combitherm smoking technology, Cook and Hold ovens and other products will also be demonstrated.

The culinary center was built with a generous investment by Alto-Shaam in the Gulf market.

“When Raqtan approached us with this opportunity, we knew this would add great value to our business relationship. We had already been seeking a test kitchen in the area, so the opportunity is a perfect fit,” said Mark Kreple, Vice President of International Sales, Alto-Shaam.

“We are just warming up,” said William Groleau, Sales and Marketing Director at Alto-Shaam. “Alto-Shaam is one of the few, if not only, manufacturers that have actually invested money not just talk. Raqtan and Alto-Shaam have taken their partnership to a much higher level than anyone else in the market.”

Alto-Shaam finds a home in Toronto

Canada’s largest city, Toronto, is the home of the Toronto Maple Leafs pro hockey team, the Toronto Blue Jays pro baseball team, and now it’s home to Alto-Shaam’s newest state-of-the-art Culinary Centre.

The new Culinary Centre, which also houses Alto-Shaam’s Canada corporate offices, was created to educate and train all areas of Canada’s foodservice industry. The centre was created in partnership with Alto-Shaam area rep group The Solution Foodservice Group.

The Culinary Centre, under direction of Corporate Chef Tom Field and National Sales Manager Claudio Baldinelli, features fully operational and integrated Alto-Shaam systems that are designed to give end users, dealers, and consultants a “hands on” experience that addresses their individual culinary and ROI requirements.

The facility converts easily from an intimate chef’s table setting, showing menu and process development, for individual demonstration, to a theatre format serving larger groups. It also changes to a complete home meal replacement (HMR) set up to service both our retail and quick service operators.

With the opening of the Toronto Culinary Centre, Alto-Shaam Canada now boasts three centres, with additional facilities in Montreal and Vancouver. Canada’s fourth Alto-Shaam Culinary Centre, to be located in Calgary and created in partnership with Bert Johnson Enterprise, Ltd., is scheduled to open in the fall.

Surprise inspections reduce
quality surprises

InspectionRemember how much you hated pop quizzes when you were in school? It was like the teacher was just waiting for you to be unprepared. But the end result was that you became more prepared, and became a better student.

At Alto-Shaam, we do the same thing on our Combitherm production line.

An average of once a day, representatives from Culinary, Engineering, Parts and Service, and Quality Assurance, pull an Alto-Shaam product from the production line at random and give it a full inspection. Inspections include, but are not limited to:

  • Cosmetics are checked, to ensure there are no scratches on the oven.
  • Finishing is inspected, to ensure there are no sharp edges.
  • All modes and controls are tested to be sure they all operate correctly.
  • Sides of the oven are removed and internal components are checked to ensure every component was signed-off on, and everything is secure.

Because food quality is important to you, equipment quality is important to us.
