Why I Became an Attorney
There were not a lot of jobs for a person with a new Master's degree in Comparative Literature in 1976. So I decided to apply to one law school and to one auto mechanics' school. I got into law school, but not the mechanics' course. It's a good thing I think, in that I'm reasonably sure that I have been a much better lawyer than I would have been an auto mechanic.
How I Help my Clients
I fight as hard as I can for them. I work the court system, the administrative law system, and the "get on the phone and don't get off until you have what you want" system to make sure my clients get what is fair.
What I Enjoy Most About my Job
Much of my work involves getting disabled people a source of income and medical insurance. I make a difference in their lives and that is important to me. And I like winning quite a lot.
What I'm Proud of
I am always proud, wherever I am, to be part of groups of smart and hard working women who are changing the world. It's been said that women hold up half the sky. I expect it's a bit more than half and when we work together, we make lives better for our families, our friends, our clients, and our communities.
What I do When I'm not at the Office
Watch The West Wing. I expect to have all seven seasons committed to memory by January, 2010.
